Why Now Was the Perfect Time for Maggie’s Horse Photoshoot

With Mum - having a photoshoot with their pony Razz

A young person’s pony photoshoot

It was an absolute delight to recently photograph 8-year-old Maggie and her incredible Dartmoor pony, Razz!

Officially known as Pumphill Rasputin, Razz has had an amazing career in the show ring, competing successfully at both the Horse of the Year Show and the Royal International. Once a stallion (until the age of 9), he’s now 17 and enjoying a more relaxed pace of life. And his newest role? Being the most wonderful companion to his youngest (and tiniest!) jockey yet – Maggie.

Their bond is something truly special, and capturing them together was such a joy. But what made this session even more meaningful was the story behind it.

Maggie’s mum, Catherine, had originally booked a shoot with me two years ago. Sadly, their pony at the time became ill and, heartbreakingly, passed away before the session could take place. They were devastated. It was just so sad. So when I heard from Catherine again this summer, I was absolutely thrilled.

She told me they had found Razz and how much fun Maggie was having with him—and that she just knew this was the right moment to finally book that horse photoshoot.

We planned the session for a beautiful summer evening, as the sun dipped behind the Lancashire fells. Despite having to reschedule twice due to rain and wind, we got there in the end! We had the perfect night and, after checking a number of locations, photographed in two lovely fields and at the stables.

I’m so pleased to say Catherine loved the photographs and has ordered a stunning collection of Fine Art Mounted Prints, along with a large selection of digital files from the session. I can’t wait for her to receive her finished wall art and see those special moments brought to life at home.
