Rare pony horse photoshoot in Cumbria - by Emma Campbell

At the end of this month, I turn 50.

It’s a big milestone, and as birthdays go, this one has crept up on me faster than I expected. I’ve found myself doing what many of us do at moments like this – looking back, taking stock, and thinking about what really matters in my life right now. And I’m not alone. Over the years, I’ve noticed that many of my clients seem to be doing the same.

It might be a milestone birthday, or the realisation that your children aren’t so little anymore, having outgrown their ponies and are now celebrating their prom or first competition with horses! Or perhaps your heart horse, who was once a spirited 6-year-old, is suddenly heading into their twilight years. We all have these moments – those little nudges that say, “I need to capture this. This time won’t last forever.

So often, a client will mention how they’d been thinking about booking a session for months or even years, but it wasn’t until one of these milestones arrived that they made it happen. Sometimes it’s about celebrating how far they’ve come. Other times, it’s about holding on to something – a relationship, a season of life, a chapter that’s beginning to shift.

And what I love about my Horse portrait sessions is that they benefit my clients in two ways. Firstly, with the experience itself. Whether that’s providing an incredible opportunity for the family to come together and spend some quality time with each other, or by allowing yourself to take a moment out of your busy life, and enjoy celebrating you and your special horse. The session itself can be emotional, powerful, fun and enjoyable.

And secondly, what I love about Horse Portrait Sessions is that they aren’t just for now – they’re for the future too. They become a way to remember not just what something looked like, but how it felt. The bond you share with your horse. The joy of chaos and love of family life with your cherished horses and dogs around you. These all deserve to be remembered.

So, whether you’re marking a milestone birthday, your child’s first pony, a golden oldie special horse, or simply you’ve had a quiet moment of realisation that now is a good time, let’s create something together that will last.
