Mastering Pet Photography: Storytelling, Maximising Impact and the Client Experience
Monday 19 October 2026
10am-4pm
Loxley Colour,
Cumbernauld,
Glasgow
Cost: £80
I’m delighted to be heading to Loxley Colour in Glasgow on Monday 19 October 2026 to deliver an exclusive one-day workshop (in association with The Guild of Photographers) – for anyone wishing to grow their pet portraiture business or take their animal imagery to the next level.
It promises to be a packed and inspiring day, exploring how we can create animal portraits that have genuine meaning for our clients while also strengthening the experience we offer from the first enquiry through to the finished artwork.

Creating photographs that mean more
Photographing a horse or dog is about far more than creating a technically correct image. Every fur-baby has their own character, and every owner shares a different relationship and story with them.
For me, the strongest portraits begin with understanding that connection. Thoughtful planning, sensitive direction and an awareness of the moments unfolding in front of us can transform a photograph from something attractive into something a client truly values.
Throughout the day, I’ll share the approach I have developed during more than 30 years of photographing animals, along with some of the lessons I’ve learnt reaching Master Craftsman and judge.
The horses and dogs in our lives are more than just animals. They are part of our family.
What we’ll cover during the workshop

During the morning, we’ll concentrate on the Animal Portrait Experience, including what makes animal portraiture different, how to create portraits with meaning, planning a successful session and posing people naturally with their animals.
The afternoon will focus on critique, print and sales. We’ll look at what gives a photograph impact, how to take an image from a digital file to beautifully finished printed artwork, and how to guide clients confidently from their initial enquiry through to their viewing without the process ever feeling like a hard sell.
Using my experience as a photographic judge, I’ll also explore how thoughtful critique can help us recognise what is working within an image and where it could be strengthened. This can be valuable whether you are developing work for photographic competitions or creating finished portraits for your clients.
From digital photographs to meaningful artwork
A digital photograph is only one part of the story. Seeing an image thoughtfully printed and presented can completely change the way it is experienced and valued.
We’ll explore how finished artwork can become a natural part of the client journey and how helping clients choose the right pieces for their homes can strengthen both their experience and your sales. The aim is never to pressure someone into buying, but to guide them confidently towards artwork they will genuinely enjoy for years to come.

Behind the scenes at Loxley Colour
There will also be an exclusive opportunity to go behind the scenes at Loxley Colour. It will be a wonderful chance to see more of the care and craftsmanship that goes into professionally produced photographic artwork.
Who is the workshop for?
This workshop is designed for anyone who is thinking of starting a pet photography business, and/or a professional, who already photographs animals full or part time.
Whether you would like to create more meaningful imagery, build a stronger client experience, improve the impact of your photographs or develop your printed-artwork sales, the day will offer practical ideas you can take back and apply within your own business.

Book your place!
The workshop takes place from 10am until 4pm on Monday 19th October 2026 at Loxley Colour, 1 Drum Mains Park, Cumbernauld, Glasgow G68 9LD.
