Greystoke castle - horse photoshoot, Cumbria

Stunning, historical surroundings – Horse Photoshoot at Greystoke Castle, Cumbria.

This week, I had the pleasure of photographing the amazing mum and daughter-duo Debbie and Connie at one of Lake Distict’s hidden gems, Greystoke Castle.

Photographed with their wonderful horses Theo and Flip, the grandeur of the castle, combined with the rolling parkland, provided the perfect backdrop.

The horse photoshoot was part of a workshop day, to allow one of my mentees, to create some beautiful images for her portfolio, and also to experience photographing two clients together.

Greystoke Castle’s timeless charm added an extra layer of magic to the shoot, with a mix of location opportunities, including a quiet woodland area, as well as the stunning castle.

A huge thank you to everyone involved—these shoots are always special, but the stunning location, clientele and incredible horses made this one unforgettable!

Greystoke Castle (winter opening hours) Wednesday to Sunday – with garden entry to book online. Perfect surroundings to take afternoon tea, or explore the beautiful landscape, the venue is live with incredible events throughout the year and perfect as a wedding venue or for private hire.

The castle has quite a history too. Built in the 12th century, it was owned by the ill-fated fifth wife of King Henry VIII, Catherine Howard’s family and it is believed she could have stayed there as part of her youth. The castle is also famously linked to Tarzan, as author Edgar Rice Burroughs is said to have drawn inspiration from, for his iconic novel Tarzan of the Apes. Today, visitors can explore the estate’s Tarzan Trails, a scenic route perfect for dog walkers and nature lovers alike.
