Horse Photography Workshop – Acton Hall Equestrian Centre

Horse Photography Workshop

It was fabulous to run a horse photography Workshop, in conjunction with The Guild of Photographers Photohubs Event.

Our small group, started out at the Hilton Hotel, in Stoke for a practical morning. We looked at some of the technical essentials required for horse photography, as well as looking at horse behaviour, paces and getting the very best angles for photographing horses.

The second part was out on location at a fabulous local stables Acton Hall Equestrian centre, providing an excellent opportunity to work with horses in their home environment.

We had three very different type of horses/ponies to photograph. Our horse photoshoot comprised of a gorgeous New Forest pony, called Kit Kat and his owner Chloe and mum and son team, Gina and Toby. Gina had a beautiful big grey gelding called Rocky, who was such a dream to photograph, while Toby had an exceptional warmblood showjumper, called Dollar. All horses, had very different personalities and brought something different to each session.

The aim of the workshop was to leave with a portfolio of beautiful images, boost their creativity and passion, as well as offer them practical tools to enhance their next horse photoshoot session.

There will also be an added bonus, with all participants reconnecting back online for a 90 minute review and critique session of their favourite images, taken from the sessions, at the end of the month. Here Emma will also demonstrate some post-processing basics, share tips for submitting equine images for competition and offer an open Q&A session at the end.
